- Scope and ContentMerle Parkes discusses her four-year nursing training at Ryde Hospital at 18 years of age, then further training in midwifery and Tresillian childcare and adoption practices. One of her nurse tutors inspired her to become a nurse educator. Parkes won a Florence Nightingale Scholarship to study at London University, College of Nursing 1956-8 and won the Rockefeller Scholarship in USA, 1959. She discusses the different methods of teaching nursing she learnt when she travelled throughout Scandinavia, Canada and USA, during her studies overseas.
