  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Women's Club was founded in 1901 with the mission to 'fill some of the needs of intellectual and academic women'. It is a place for women from different backgrounds, life experiences and professions to meet and pursue their interests together and to support women to achieve their ambitions. The club holds various events and circles where members can engage in discussion about various topics.

    Virginia Macleod has worked as a freelance historian for over twenty years, completing a Master in Publish History at the University of Technology, Sydney, 2003. She has written publications and curated exhibitions about local history of various communities in Sydney. She has undertaken oral history interviews for the National Library of Australia, City of Sydney Council and other projects.

  • Scope and Content
    This collection is comprised of ten interviews with past and present members of The Women's Club, Sydney. The club was founded in 1901 as a support network for intellectual and academic women. Each member discusses their significant achievements in their careers and describes their association with The Women's Club and how it has supported them.
