  • General note

Although the inscription on this medal clearly states ‘1st Prize’, the reason why George Ernest Morrison had this medal is a mystery. Three different sources, Morrison’s diary entry of 16 December 1878, The Geelong College Christmas 1878 newsletter, and The Australasian, all reported that he was awarded 2nd prize in Third Class Gymnastics. Charles Hedley Edols was awarded 1st prize in Third Class Gymnastics.
