  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Robert Kirk Milson (1857-1949) was the son of David Ambrose Milson and Rachel Rhoda Nevin (Dunlop) Milson and a descendant of James Milson (1814-1903). He married Florence (nee Elliot) and had six children, James Arthur Milson (1893-1980), George Hamilton (1894-1975), Florence Mabel (1897-1961), Alice Elliot (1898-1982), Thalia Diamentina (1899-1982) and David Robert (b. 1902). The family had various land and pastoral holdings in Western Queensland, including Springvale, Diamantina Lakes and Huntley Station.

Eliza Hamilton Dunlop (1796-1880) was born in County Armagh, Ireland and daughter of Solomon Hamilton. She married David Dunlop (1794-1863) and arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales, 1838. David Dunlop was appointed Police Magistrate and Protector of Aborigines at Wollombi and Macdonald River, New South Wales, 1839-1847. Eliza Dunlop was a lyric writer, poet and took great interest in the language and culture of the Indigenous people in her region. Her daughter, Rachael Rhoda Nevin (1829-1908) married David Ambrose Milson (1817-1890).

Colin George Macalister Milson (1919-1975) was born in Longreach, Queensland to James Arthur Milson and Valerie Aeneas (nee Morgan-Reade). He attended Cranbrook school, Sydney and All Souls Church of England Boys' School, Charters Towers, Queensland. Colin Milson enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (1940-1946). He took over the management of the family's cattle stations, 1955, and served as Diamantina Shire Council president. Colin Milson married Sheila Margaret Tonkin, 1947. They had two sons, Scott and Guy Milson.
