  • Scope and Content
    Michael Askill speaks in detail about his association with Percussions of Strasbourg, and his study in France and New York, USA. He recounts his experience as a percussionist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Musica Viva and various other ensembles. Askill discusses establishing Synergy Percussion and the impact of this group. He talks about composing music for the opening of the Sydney Olympics, 2000, films and dance including Sydney Dance Company, and his association with Peter Sculthorpe and Graeme Murphy.

    Askill explains his move to the Northern Rivers, New South Wales, his teaching in various Australian music institutions, his PhD in Music Composition from University of Queensland, 2015, his collaboration with Vanessa Tomlinson on the group Early Warning System. He discusses in detail his interest in Buddhism, ancient instruments, Tibetan drones and chamber bowls, and his travels to India, Nepal and China. Finally, Askill speaks about his aspiration to collaborate with his sons and other musicians and reflects on his musical legacy.
