Phillip Scott talks about his upbringing and musical and theatrical influences from his father, Bruce Scott. He talks about his education at Sydney University, majoring in Music (Honors) and his thesis on the Passacaglia form in the music of Benjamin Britten, supervised by Peter Sculthorpe.

Scott discusses his career as a Program Director for radio 2MBS-FM, which later became Find Music 102.5; pianist, arranger and music director for swing band Pardon Me Boys; a writer for scripts, newspaper columns; and his extended career in theatre as music director, pianist, composer, arranger and performer.

Scott recounts of his relationship breakdown with his wife and his coming out as a gay man in 1992. He talks about his writing on gay themes, his partner, Michael Huxley, and the homosexual influence on his work. He also discusses his work as a mentor for younger creators and performers.
