This series comprises black and white photographic prints of Australian vernacular building styles, collected by Don Gazzard over 40 years for a planned book on vernacular design, which was never published. The photographs include images of buildings constructed from Australia’s earliest days to the 1990s, selected to show regional variety. Building types to be covered in the book include urban housing, country farmhouses and barns, shearing sheds, vineyard buildings, wheat silos, school buildings, police stations, wharf buildings, warehouses, brick kilns, sawmills, mine buildings, terrace house streetscapes and the modern vernacular.

In addition to Don Gazzard, photographers include Jill Crossley, Terry Dorrough, Eagle Photographics, Dora Evans, Harry Frauca, Jack Hickson, Simon Holthouse, G. Macarthur-Onslow, G. Morris, W. Pederson, David Potts, J. Roebourne, B. J. Saini, Peter Sands, Harry Sowden, Granville Wilson
