    Margaret Wallis was born in 1941 and grew up in Ashfield, New South Wales. She worked at the Reader's Digest magazine in London as a galley-proof reader for three years and then worked for Reader's Digest in Sydney for 30 years, 1966-1996. Wallis is a second-generation member of The Women's Club.
