Additional information supplied by photographer: despite heavy baiting on his farm, Jason Hogland lost his entire winter stocks of hay. The mice bury into hay stocks in search of grains and create nests where they continue to breed and multiply. Poisoned mice will also crawl back into the hay to die. Eventually, the hay bales become putrefied and farmers have to destroy them, either by burying the bales or setting them on fire. - Subject
