Dean Sewell, photographer, was born in Sydney, New Wales. He began his career working as a news photographer for the Sydney Morning Herald. He been awarded the Nikon-Walkley Australian Press Photographer of the Year (1994, 1998), World Press Photo awards (2000, 2002, 2005), and the Moran Contemporary Photography prize (2009), among others. In 2000 he co-founded the Australian documentary photographers’ collective 'Oculi'.
