  • Scope and Content
Letter signed, from Casimir de Freycinet to his nephew Louis René (Lodoïx) de Freycinet in Paris, sent from Auxerre, 20 January 1843, in a secretarial hand (3 pages on a single folded sheet, seal, postmarks, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 274 B-4), concerning the location of Louis’ papers at Freycinet [family château] and at his place in Souillac, and the manuscripts for the Mariana Islands Dictionary.

The letter is enclosed in a wrapper with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 274 B. The wrapper is annotated in pencil that it contains four letters exchanged between Lodoïx de Freycinet and his uncle Casimir in 1843 (after the death of Louis Claude) on the subject of the publication of the Mariana Dictionary [see also Items 11-13]. The wrapper is also annotated in ink with a quotation from a letter from Louis de Freycinet to Henri de Freycinet, 11 July 1837, concerning the unfinished Dictionary ('le désespoir de ma vie').
