- Scope and ContentIn this interview, Richard Leplastrier describes his childhood, moving from Western Australia to Tasmania, aged 8, and then to Sydney in 1954. He describes the importance of boats, and how they taught him to understand the landscape. He talks about his private education at Scots College, Bellevue Hill and the inspiring teaching of Ross King and Lloyd Rees, as well as George Molnar at the University of Sydney. He describes working for Jorn Utzon’s office and the Utzon's influence on him. He describes his reasons for moving to Japan where he attended lectures by Toyama Masuda, architectural professor at Kyoto university. He describes the profound impact of living minimally in Japan and moving to Tokyo to work for Kenzo Tange in 1968 and travelling around India on a motorbike, viewing Le Corbusier’s work at Chandigarh, before heading to Europe.
