  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Norman Wood is the third son of William and Lillian Wood, born at Cosme in 1899. (The fourth son, Donald, was killed in the Chaco War between Paraguay and Bolivia.) Norman was a cattle rancher all his life, in the wild Chaco and in country near the northern Paraguay town of Concepción. His second wife Doña Leonarda, like his first wife, was a Paraguayan.
Enrique Wood is a younger son of Norman Wood, a veterinarian who works with cattle and the only self-declared socialist among the Australian-Paraguayan descendants. Because of his opposition to the Stroessner regime and after being placed under arrest three times, he chose to work in Belo Horizonte, Brazil until Stroessner was overthrown in 1989, when Enrique returned home to Concepcion.
