  Margaret Riley, née Hoare, recorded at the age of 100 and again at age 105 at her home in Tugun Queensland. She had clear memories of the 1891 Shearers’ Strike in Queensland in which her father, Dennis Hoare, a carrier, was involved, and took her, aged 8, to some of the meetings. In December 1893, aged 10, she sailed with her family (parents and six brothers and sisters) to Paraguay and settled at New Australia for six years. When she was recorded, she was the last surviving witness of the 1891 Shearers’ Strike, the early days of the ‘Paraguay experiment’ and of William Lane, its chairman
