Sir James Reading Fairfax (1834–1919) was the son of John Fairfax (1804-1877). Together, in partnership they established John Fairfax and Sons in 1856. Geoffrey Evan (1861–1930), and Sir James Oswald were the sons of Sir James Reading Fairfax. Both joined John Fairfax and Sons in 1889, were members of the Herald proprietary and Directors John Fairfax & Sons Limited from 1916.
