    Mohamud Sheikh Mohammed was born into a traditional family in northern Kenya. After training and working as a hospital scientist, he migrated to Australia in 2001. He completed a Master of Health Sciences, a Master of International Public Health and a Doctorate of Public Health at the University of Sydney, and is a senior lecturer in tropical and infectious diseases. He is president of the Horn of Africa Relief Development Agency.
