Mehreen Faruqi was born in 1963 in Lahore, Pakistan. She studied engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, and was the only female engineer in a large firm before migrating to Australia in 1992. She completed a Masters degree at the University of New South Wales and has since worked as an environmental engineer and academic. She has been a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 2013, as a Greens Party member.
