  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Lady Suzanne Martin (née Millear) was born in Melbourne in 1936. Her parents lived on the family property in western Victoria and she was sent to boarding school in Mt Macedon at the age of 7. At the age of 18, while returning from Europe on the SS Orcades, she met her husband-to-be, Sir David Martin. She nursed briefly at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne before their marriage in 1957. While raising their three children, she supported her husband at various postings during his distinguished naval career, and from January 1989 to August 1990, during his governorship of New South Wales. She is on the Board of Governors of the Sir David Martin Foundation, which supports young Australians in crisis or at risk.
