- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
Tibor Siklos, formerly Sternberg, born in Budapest, Hungary, 1909. Father died in 1929 and Tibor took over family fruit and vegetable wholesale business. Unable to run business after anti-Jewish laws passed in 1939. Married and had two children, in 1939 and in 1942. Sent to forced labour camps in Transylvania from 1939 to 1942 and also did some labouring work in Budapest. In 1943 sent to Turka, Poland, for forced labour work. Returned for a while to Budapest and then in 1944 sent back to Turka. Escaped during march towards Hungary and met up with Russians at Ungvar, Ukrania, near Hungarian border. Returned to Budapest and reunited with mother, wife and children. Divorced in 1947. From 1945 to 1949 resumed wholesale fruit and vegetable business. Remarried and in 1949 migrated to Australia, coming via Kosice, Slovakia, Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, and Vienna, Austria. - Copying ConditionsIn copyright:
