Walter Ziegler born in Olkusz, Poland, 1927. During war: in Olkusz Ghetto from 1939 till sent to Blechhammer forced labour camp in June 1942, camp closed because of dysentry in October, Walter survived selection and sent to factory camp in Zwittau, Germany, and put to work making tents for Rommel campaign, after sent to Silesian camps of Faulbruck, Reichenbach, Peterswaldau and Langenbielau. After war: returned to Olkusz, then to Gleiwitz, because of progroms in Poland fled to Prague, on to Fernwald Displaced Persons camp in Munich, then in 1946 went with youth group under Swiss Red Cross to Davos and Bern in Switzerland and learnt tailoring there.
