Adam Zygmunt Szumer born in Jaslo, Poland, 1930. During war: family moved to Stanislawow in 1939, lived under Russian occupation, moved again in same year to Drohobycz, in 1941 German occupation began, worked in brickworks to avoid deportation and lived in ghetto, when new round up of Jews started in winter of 1942 family sent him into hiding with Polish women, returned to parents in ghetto, got work in oil refinery, hid in bunker for four months in early 1944, Russian liberation in June. After war: moved to Katowice in Poland and attended high school, anti-semitism and pressure to leave Poland. Migrated to Australia via France and U.S.A. in 1947. - Copying ConditionsIn copyright:
