  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Benjamin Edwin Minns, (1864-1937), born in Dungog, NSW was introduced to art by the young Charles Conder, with whom he shared rooms in Sydney in the 1880s. Minns soon developed a successful career as the first significant freelance Bulletin cartoonist. He is also known for his sensitive watercolours.

    Finished pastoral scene featuring cattle grazing and resting in a pasture under a large tree in the foreground, with buildings and hills in the background. Unfinished pastoral landscape on verso with resting cattle in the left foreground and a shed in the right midground, with hills in the background.
