  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Elizabeth Denny, nee Gluck, was born in Füzesgyarmat, Hungary in 1910. She was married in 1935 and lived in Abadszalok, until the occupation of Hungary by the Germans. Elizabeth was sent with her daughter to the Kunhegyes ghetto for 6 weeks then to work on a farm in Austria.

Elizabeth was later transported to Bergen Belsen concentration camp, where she worked until the camp was liberated by the Americans in April 1945.

Repatriated to Hungary, Elizabeth found some relatives still living in Budapest. Her husband had died in a labour camp. She worked for Joint (American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee) and remarried in 1947. After the 1956 revolution Elizabeth left Hungary, arriving in Sydney in 1957. She married Mr Denny, her third husband, in 1957.
