  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Nessy Allen, nee Beregi, was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1937. Her father was sent to work camp in Kiev when Nessy was four or five years old. He died there. Her school was closed and Jews were made to wear the yellow star.

Nessy stayed with relatives outside of Budapest. After her mother was taken away by soldiers, she lived with her grandparents until the end of the war. After the war came the Russian occupation and political crises. Her grandfather died and her grandmother went to Israel. Nessy joined her aunt and uncle in Australia in 1946, when she was only nine years old.
