  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Charlotte Stern, nee Goldschmidt, was born in Soest, Germany in 1905. In 1929 she married a lawyer. After 1933 her husband was not allowed to practise law, as a result of anti-Semitism.

    In 1934 Charlotte went with her daughter to South Africa, where they lived on a farm at Kameelkop, near Waschbank. After her husband died, she moved to Johannesburg and bought a delicatessen shop with a friend. In 1961 Charlotte immigrated to Sydney, Australia to join daughter.
