- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
Gisela Hrones, nee Friedenberg, was born in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia, 1908. She married in 1935 to man who wasn't Jewish and was forced to divorce during the German occupation. Gisela moved to the mountains with her son but had to leave him behind as she was forced to wander from place to place changing identity. Her husband kept in contact, sending money and eventually the Gestapo put him in prison. In 1944 Gisela fled to the Hungarian mountain village of Konska. When the Czech brigade from the Russian army came, she was able to go to Kozitze and get a job helping to set up services for the future Czech government. Gisela moved to Prague continuing to work for the government until 1948. During this time she had reunited with her husband and son and together they left Czech Republic illegally and migrated to Australia in 1949. - Copying ConditionsIn copyright:
