- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
Renate Harding, nee Stern, was born in Recklinghausen, Germany in 1930. Her father left Germany in 1933 when, as a Jew, he was no longer allowed to practise law. He set up a small farm in Waschbank, South Africa. Renate followed with her mother later. At school she experienced anti-German bias in spite of being Jewish. After her matriculation the family moved to Johannesburg and Renate studied Dietetics at Pretoria University. She attained a scholarship which enabled her to go to the U.S.A. to study, before returning to Pretoria to attain her Masters degree. In January 1960 Renate went to Perth to take up a job at the Royal Perth Hospital, before coming to Sydney to work for the Health Department in 1966. - Copying ConditionsIn copyright:
