  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
    David Benedikt was born 1920 in Brno, Czechoslovakia. In 1941 he was taken out of university and transported to Theresienstadt (Terezin, Czechoslovakia) with his parents. David was then sent to Salaspils Camp (Latvia) where he was kept from 1942 until 1943. He was then deported to Riga ghetto and and later to Kaiserwald (Latvia).

    In 1944, David was moved to Stutthof in Germany. By the time the war ended he was back in Riga where he married Solomin and returned to Czechoslovakia, before travelling to Switzerland.

    In 1946 David migrated to Australia and became a citizen. In 1953, he moved to South Africa where he stayed until 1986 before returning to Australia.
