    DAY BOOK
    11 Jul. 1853 - 12 Aug. 1854; Contains unfinished pencil sketches of men, dates, list of expenses (including jewellery, "slops", clothing, opera tickets), and amounts. Some lists are debited to individuals and there is a receipt of monies received from John Lazar, Adelaide.

    B 108 -
    There is no internal evidence as to the provenance of this item or the name of the theatres. Previously attributed to Samuel Lazar by the Mitchell Library.
    Two notebooks are bound into this volume.
    The first part of this volume probably consists of salary receipts of performers in Adelaide. The second part comprises material from Brisbane.
    B 594 -
    Only the stubs or butts of the receipts remain.
    The original volume was rebound into new covers at an unknown date. The present front cover is the original boards and bears several miscellaneous notes and dates as well as letter in Hebrew.

    "D.S. Mitchell" signature on front endpaper of B 108.
    "D.S.M." initals on back endpaper of B 594.
  • Signatures / Inscriptions

    "Theatrical Receipts" embossed on spine of B 108.
    "Lazar and Co. March 1875 Sydney N.S.W." is stencilled on front cover of B 594.
    "Day Book" is handwritten on front cover, "Samuel Lazar" signed on the reverse, and "Victoria Lazar" on front endpapers of B 594.
