  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Samuel Lazar, son of John Lazar, was a theatre manager and producer of pantomimes and operas. He initially managed the Theatre Royal in Adelaide then moved to Sydney to administer the Queen's Theatre (which he refitted) pending the opening of the second Theatre Royal, corner of King and Castlereagh Streets, Sydney in Dec. 1875. Lazar managed this until 1882, when the theatre came under the control of J.C. Williamson, Arthur Garner, and George Musgrove. His box-office chief was James Booty.
