  • General note

None of the sketches are signed or initialled by Brierly. The initials ""J.B."" that appear on No.48 may be the monogram of a member of the Rattlesnake expedition, a number of whose initials were J.B. The sketch is very similar in style to Brierly's and is titled and dated in Brierly's hand.
Some sketches have an additional drawing on the reverse and have been numbered a & b accordingly.
Many sketches are annotated with descriptions and colour notes.
No.15 Four of the studies are labelled ""No.1"", ""No.2"", ""No.5"", and ""No.6"". These appear to be continued on sketch No.14. The fifth plant study is unfinished. The sixth sketch is titled, ""Water over rocks 1+1/2 miles from Mouth"".
