Sketchbooks contain pen, ink, and watercolour drawings primarily of landscapes, portraits, and flora and fauna by members of the Le Souef family including Una and her mother Caroline. Some of the landscape drawings are distinctively Australian, including the Blue Mountains and Sydney Harbour sketches. The sketchbooks also contain notes and verse.

Most drawings are unsigned
Sketchbooks Nos. 12-22 do not have inscriptions
The sketchbooks are mainly Walker's Artist Sketch Books and Winsor & Newtown with canvas covers and elasticised strap for closing mechanism.

Nos. 1-2, 4, 6-7 are inscribed in pencil, pen, or watercolour on title page or reverse of cover "Una Le Souef"
No. 3 has initials "U.L.S" on the title page
No. 5 title page has text "Australian Book. U.L.S"
No. 6 is dated "Tuppal 1906" on cover
No.7 has dedication "Darling (Una?) with my best love....."
No.8 "Una de Souef - from mother", inside cover
No.9 has dedication "Darling Una with love from Madge" on inside cover
No. 10 is inscribed and dated "Una Falkiner June 1915"
No.11 is inscribed "Nancy Falconer 1906" on inside cover
