This album was compiled by Caroline Le Souef (nee Cotton) who was a painter and decorative artist. It contains several drawings by her father, John Cotton, who was an amateur photographer, ornithologist, and artist.

Inscribed on reverse of endnote page "Brought in Sydney in 1853 for my intended Caroline Cotton. A.L.S. 1898. 45 years ago!"
Some drawings and verse are signed "A.E.M"
[River bank] is signed and dated "J. Cotton 1848"
Other drawings by John Cotton are identified by a later hand
