    Sketchbooks:
    1. Spanish Sketchbook, 1934, from which "Pepito" was born [46 pages of sketches in various mediums such as ink, pencil, charcoal, crayon. Mostly human figures. 1 loose sketch in back of book. Includes b&w photograph of a painting which inspired some of the sketches, on inside front cover]

    2. Spirax Sketch Book [46 pages of sketches in various mediums as above. 1 loose sketch in back of book]

    3. Open flat sketch book [123 pages of pencil sketches and watercolour drawings of birds, including related notes. Also 42 loose sketches, mostly of birds and fauna, removed from Sketchbook + a set of handwritten notes about the platypus + a letter from the British Museum to Hawkins re: an appointment to view fauna specimens, dated 1960]
