  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sheila Hawkins was born in 1905 at Kalgoorlie on the Western Australian goldfields. She spent her early years in Australia and was educated in Perth then Melbourne, but travelled to England at age 26, and from there she never returned permanently to Australia. Throughout her career she illustrated about 50 children's books, including 10 which she also wrote. She won awards for her work but was not well recognised within Australia
