Syms Covington, who joined HMS Beagle as a musician, was employed by Charles Darwin as his servant and assistant collector from June 1833 till the end of the voyage in October 1836. Covington spent the next two years helping Darwin arrange his collections. He visited Sydney with the Beagle in early 1836, when he wrote disparaging comments about the town. Despite these comments he decided to emigrate to NSW, arriving in late 1839-early 1840. He died at Pambula in 1861. - System of arrangementThis collection comprises 3 record series.
