    Professor Nalini Joshi is Chair of Applied Mathematics at the University of Sydney. Born in Burma, she moved to Australia as a child. Joshi earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours and the University Medal from the University of Sydney, 1982, and a PhD from Princeton University, 1987. Her research specialises in integrable systems within applied mathematics.

    Joshi has received numerous accolades, including the 2012 Australian Research Council Georgina Sweet Laureate Fellowship, which supported women in STEMM, and she co-founded the SAGE (Science in Australia Gender Equity) national initiative. Joshi was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for her contributions to mathematics, education, and mentorship, 2016.
