  • Scope and Content
In Part 2 of the interview Professor Sahajwalla discusses the development of SMaRT over the past two decades, the joy of thinking in her own space, continuing to open possibilities, growing the passion for what the team is doing. She talks about receiving the Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship & Georgina Sweet Award for her project to transform electronic waste into green metals and her Science 50:50 program to inspire girls and women into STEMM.

Throughout the interview Professor Sahajwalla touches on the challenges of being a woman in STEMM, proving herself through actions and outcomes, and lauds the multi-faceted ways women are excelling at showing how the world can be viewed from a multi-dimensional lens. Whether she is discussing family, campus life or the cutting-edge innovations of her work, Veena returns to the importance of human connection in understanding the purpose of what she does, reiterating the question her mother has always asked: 'What difference are you making?' In addition, Veena communicates her strong sense of fun, her natural curiosity and her love of doing things differently, asking not only how to break the rules but why.
