Alan P. Rigby (1901–1966) was a successful Sydney-based commercial artist as well as a bushwalker and conservationist. Rigby produced a number of bookplates and was also a member of the Australian Ex-Libris Society. He worked as a commercial artist with his wife Enid Rigby (nee Greenacre) commencing in about 1927. The 1920s and 30s were the busiest time for the partnership. They produced brochures, flyers and posters for large companies such as P&O and E&A shipping lines as well as department stores such as Winn’s. The partnership endured until Alan’s death in 1966.

Rigby's good friend P. Neville Barnett (1881-1953), a collector and authority on bookplates, was regarded as one of the most significant figures in the Australian bookplate movement. The bookplate publications that Barnett wrote, designed, and privately printed remain highly sought after by collectors. Rigby honoured Barnett’s contribution to publishing on bookplates with an article in the Year Book of the American Society of Bookplate Collectors and Designers, 1949-1950.

One album containing approximately 190 bookplates and ephemera, prints and correspondence. Includes bookplates (some hand-coloured) designed by artists including Alan P. Rigby, P. Neville Barnett, Adrian Feint, David Perrotet, Philip M. Litchfield, Sydney Long, Pixie O'Harris, Eric Thake, Normal Lindsay, Lionel Lindsay, Will Mahoney, L. Roy Davies, Robert Johnson, J.J. Lankes, and others.

Also included in the album is 3 proof states and 2 copies (1 with inscription) of the completed bookplate for P. Neville Barnett by Gayfield Shaw with handwritten note by P. Neville Barnett; proofs for a bookplate for Mary Constance Isabel Barnett; photograph of P. Neville Barnett in his home, by J. R. T. Richardson with inscription to Alan P. Rigby on verso.
