  • Scope and Content
    1 album containing 90 photographic prints, and 51 mounted photographic prints, capturing various aspects of the humanitarian work of Margaret Watts and her fellow pacifists, including the Sydney Family of Friends (Quakers) in Vienna, Austria, as part of the post-World War I recovery efforts, and Cologne, Hamburg, Bremen and Berlin in Germany as part of the post-World War II recovery efforts.

    BOX 1
    1 album, titled "Vienna" on front cover, composing an illustrated lecture prepared by the Friends' Relief Mission which begins with a two-page typescript introduction. It contains 90 photographic prints, most taken between 15 June and 15 July 1920 and include sites around the city of Vienna, post-WWI food shortages and people in impoverished conditions, children posed to illustrate the effects of starvation and malnutrition, tuberculosis patients and treatment facility, evacuation of children, and cattle markets and farming.

    51 photographic prints mounted on 28 pages taken in Germany, including civilians queueing and rioting for food in Hamburg, factories in the Ruhr, destroyed buildings in Cologne, female police officers, medical staff and German children undergoing medical care and being sent to other European countries for care. Individuals identified include Eric Mohr and Claude Shotts, as well as the American Quakers, the German Red Cross, Swiss Red Cross, Swedish Red Cross, British Red Cross. Some image captions have been amended.
