Stanley Varnum Ciccone was born on 14 April 1924 in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. He was a member of the Newport Camera Club and, after serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he and his brother, Warren, opened a photography studio. They then moved to San Francisco and worked with Dwane McHolick for Macy's Department Store. In 1970, they moved to Sydney, New South Wales and joined David Jones, where they worked to update and rebrand the fashion image of the company. In 1971, their shoot for the March edition of the Sydney Morning Herald won that year's American Advertising Bureau of the U.S. Grand Award. Warren subsequently returned to San Francisco but Stanley continued to work for David Jones and for Georges store in Melbourne, Victoria. He also travelled overseas to shoot in Paris, Athens and Fiji. He remained with David Jones until the end of the 1990s. He died on 17 November 2023 in Freshwater, Sydney.
