- Scope and ContentIn this first interview session Tohby describes his early life in Castle Cove and later Paddington, education at Sydney College of the Arts, and his growing interest in picture books, fuelled by a part time job at Pan Books (later Pan Macmillan), who would go on to publish his first book Careful with that ball, Eugene! (1989). He details the origins of this story as well as the editing and design process and discusses his other early picture books published in the 1990s. Tohby discusses his cartooning job for the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Weekend magazine from 1997, his process and the use of collage applied to the book The Singing Hat (2000) and other titles that followed, and his creative influences.
