  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Kinchela Aboriginal Boys Training Home (KBH) was run by the NSW Government between 1924-1970 on stolen Dunghutti land.
It housed between 400-600 Aboriginal boys that were forcibly removed from their families under accepted government and church policies that created the Stolen Generations.

  • Scope and Content
    Sensitivity Warning:
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this oral history collection contains images, sounds and names of deceased persons.
The recordings contain descriptions of events, people, and experiences that may cause distress.

In 2017 the State Library of New South Wales commissioned a series of oral history interviews documenting the life stories of men sent to the Kinchela Boys Home (KBH) between 1950 and 1950. The project was undertaken in consultation with the Sydney-based Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) and the interviews were conducted by Paulette Whitton, daughter of KBH Survivor and interviewee, Paul Whitton.

The recordings include important experiences and recollections about the effects of removal policies on the Stolen Generations and their families.
