- Scope and ContentIn this interview, Professor Hughes talks about her career in science as an ecologist, a leader in academia, a high-profile climate change scientist and advocate and a science communicator. From her early days collecting lizards and insects in the bush behind her Normanhurst home, Lesley has had an enduring love of nature and its creatures. She talks about her early experiences at university, and how the challenges she encountered have shaped her as a researcher, supervisor, teacher, manager and leader. She describes her work promoting diversity in science and supporting younger researchers. Lesley talks in depth about her work as a climate commissioner and tells the nail-biting and extraordinary story of how the Climate Council emerged from the political ashes of the Climate Commission, funded solely by the generosity of the Australian public.
