Charles Collins, also known as Chas Collins, was born on 15 May 1853 in St Giles, London, England and came to Sydney on 16 May 1855. On 15 April 1885, he married Maria Moses (1858-1925) with whom he had four children: Norman Bertie Samuel (1886-1954); Truda Hannah (1890-1967); Roy Harold (1893-1964) and Una Jane (1895-1986). According to his obituary, he worked as a photographer at the Vita Studios on George Street which he opened from at least 1877 and was also the "C. Collins' Photographic Studio" in Rocky Mouth, Grafton in 1880. He worked in rural New South Wales and, through the 1890s, advertised his George Street studio in Sydney. He died on 27 March 1927 in Paddington.
