  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Roy Henry ("Harry") Darke enlisted for war service with the Royal Australian Air Force on 16 January 1943, about three months prior to his twentieth birthday. In August 1943 he was posted to Canada to undertake training as part of the Empire Air Training Scheme. His training included the Air Navigators' course, which he completed in Edmonton, Alberta, in February 1944. He was then posted to the United Kingdom, where he served as part of Squadron 456 RAAF, achieving the rank of Flying Officer. As part of Squadron 456, he flew numerous missions over Europe as the navigator of a Mosquito fighter/bomber.
