  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Messrs. Charlemont et Cie established a large photographic studio in the Royal Arcade, Sydney, in September 1885, headed by Thomas C. Cleave who had worked with the foremost court photographers London's West End. In 1888, they exhibited at the Centennial International Exhibition, Melbourne, and seemingly later established premises there also. As at 1895, they were listed in the Sands Sydney, Suburban and Country Commercial Directory at 492 George Street, Sydney (the Royal Arcade).

    From the theatrical photograph collection of Sydney actor, stage manager and playwright Alfred Dampier, for whom Alfred Tischbauer had worked.
  • Scope and Content
    1 albumen photographic print in cabinet card format of Alfred Tischbauer, photographed by Charlemont & Co. Melbourne. Tischbauer was a set designer who worked in the 1870s under the name Alta, an artist and art teacher at Sydney Technical College.

Also annotated on verso "To my friend Thom. Sinclair; Alf Tischbauer, July 17th 1896".
