  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Edward Walker Jeayes, known as Ted, was born on 15 April 1923 in Auburn, New South Wales. His family later moved to Warsaw Street, Homebush, where Ted got an apprenticeship as a carpenter and joiner with A.W. Edwards. In 1941, he joined the Royal Australian Navy to serve in World War 2. Following the war, he returned to A.W. Edwards and then worked for Alf Decker and Sons in Sutherland. On 28 August 1945, he married Joan Scott (1921-1996). They lived in Caringbah, Gosford and Harbord (now Freshwater). Ted then got a job with Alf Hunt building the Housing Commission flats in Maroubra in 1958. From November 1959 to April 1961, Ted was foreman on the construction of an apartment building for the City of Sydney Housing Project at Pyrmont Bridge Road, Camperdown, for Morgan and Pope. Following this job, Ted worked for Thiess Bros. from June 1961 to September 1963. He then worked for Kelly & Rigby Pty. Ltd. until 1973, when he and Joan moved to Mooloolaba, Queensland. In 1983, they moved to Woodgate where Ted continued to work, building houses there and in Hervey Bay until his retirement. He died on 14 December 2003 in Brisbane.
