Cherine Fahd is an award-winning Australian photographic artist. For more than twenty years, she has exhibited, written and curated works that focus on photography and video performance. She is Associate Professor in Visual Communication at the University of Technology, Sydney, and has published in academic journals, photographic and art publications, and in news and media. Her work is held by the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

26 digital photographs of the sit-in at Anthony Albanese’s electorate office in Marrickville, where protestors picket to speak with the Prime Minister and local member for Grayndler about their demands on action for Palestine, including reinstating UNRWA funding, calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and cutting all political and financial ties with Israel. The photographs document day and night shifts and show an array of activities: letter-writing to the PM, sketching, screen printing t-shirts, traditional embroidery, graffiti, children chalk drawing on the pavement, community food deliveries, speeches, and dancing, surrounded by pro-Palestinian signage and the Palestinian flag.

The sit-in at Anthony Albanese’s electorate office in Marrickville started on 11 February 2024 with one activist, Zuja, who left the Free Palestine protest in Sydney’s Hyde Park and travelled to Albanese’s office, sitting outside on a fold-up chair. After an hour had passed and she had sent a few texts, several others had joined her and four of these protestors camped out overnight. It developed into a 24/7 sit-in with Families for Palestine coordinating shifts, food deliveries and social media call-outs.
