  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Charles Bruce Dellit was born on 7 November 1898 in Darlington, Sydney. He studied architecture at Sydney Technical College between 1912 and 1918, later attending lectures given by professor and architect Leslie Wilkinson at the University of Sydney in 1919 and 1920. He then moved to Brisbane, Queensland where he was employed as chief draftsman at Hall & Prentice. In Brisbane, on 15 October 1921, he married Victoria Sarah (or Clara) Millar (1901-1995), with whom he had three children. He returned to Sydney and registered under the Architects Act on 23 June 1923. In 1928, he began private practice and completed his first major project, Kyle House, in Macquarie Place. In 1930, he won the design competition for the ANZAC memorial in Hyde Park. Sculptor Rayner Hoff also contributed to the design which was completed in 1934. This led to various commercial and domestic commissions throughout the 1930s including the Bank of New South Wales on O'Connell Street. He died on 21 August 1942 in Sydney.
